Role Overview

The Cloud Architect within the Information Technology team at BGRS will be accountable for driving the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) strategy across our global organization. This includes the strategy for cloud adoption, migration activities, hybrid design, standardization of processes / procedures and the set-up of monitoring disciplines. The candidate must have the necessary training and exhibit a working level knowledge of the Microsoft Azure public cloud, US Government Microsoft Azure, among others.

The successful applicant must be highly involved within the cloud community, staying up to date on the latest trends, best practices, functionality and ongoing challenges. Additionally, the candidate must be able to mentor technology experts, work alongside infrastructure or application architects, while being able to present organizationally aligned strategies at the Executive level. As BGRS is strongly embracing an agile methodology, the Cloud Architect must be able to recommend, design, and implement a DevOps framework and toolset within the Azure environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Act as subject matter expert to plan, design, specify, and select cloud solutions, considering functionality, data, security, integration, infrastructure, cost and performance.
• Ensure high availability of IT services through implementation of industry best practices, including monitoring systems performance and providing superior operational support and maintenance.
• Forecast system demands and recommend upgrades, expansions and reconfigurations.
• Develop a library of deployable and documented scripts, processes, and procedures for cloud migration and operational tasks.
• Design and implement system architecture and interfaces using industry best practice.
• Produce network and server architecture diagrams and documentation.
• Provide analysis on infrastructure components that should be replaced, made more flexible, configurable, scalable, etc.
• Communicate and validate product architecture with peers, partners and stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience with cloud services for DevOps, Container/Orchestration, networking, security, data, and storage.
• Establish cloud automation strategies that focus on enhancing delivery quality, standards, and throughput.
• Design and help development of automated tests and test systems.
• Perform and automate server and database migration activities.
• Develop strategies to resolve technical impediments.
• Work with security to implement resources securely.
• Take responsibility for technical aspects of cloud solutions to include such activities as supporting bid responses, product and solution briefings, proof-of-concept work, and the coordination of supporting technical resources.
• Assist the team with project planning and other large collaboration efforts, while fostering an environment of open communication and problem solving.
• Assist with the education and training programs for the IT Infrastructure, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Development teams, including BGRS employees where required.
• Develop reporting metrics, dashboards and status reports, including performance against SLAs.
• Planning and execution of the IT OPEX budgeting process.
• Contribute to the design, documentation and testing of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning as required.
• Evaluates vendor cost and quality of services.

What You Bring to BGRS

• 10+ years’ hands-on support of business-critical IT infrastructure that includes design, administration, implementation and management experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in Microsoft Azure cloud-based infrastructure design and architecture.
• 2+ years’ experience in migration of large-scale on-premise applications to Azure cloud hosting.
• Degree in Computer Science.
• Microsoft Azure certifications are an asset.
• In-depth experience working with technologies including Microsoft Azure, .Net, SQL Server, Web Services, REST APIs, etc.
• Advanced knowledge of Enterprise technology standards, guidelines, and tools.
• Experience designing and implementing secure Enterprise solutions that are compliant with enterprise data security standards.
• Excellent customer service skills, including both verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
• Superior process design and implementation skills.
• Advanced analytical, reporting, consulting, negotiating and meeting facilitation skills.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment and with employees at all levels/areas of the organization.
• Self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
• Keen attention to detail.
• English (exceptional oral and written).

Other Information:

• Given the scope of responsibilities, and the breadth in which it covers, the Cloud Solutions Architect is required to maintain a constant connection with our IT leadership team to ensure our cloud environment as a whole is delivering to expectations measured through KPI’s and SLA’s.
• May be required to achieve Government of Canada ‘Reliability’ status.
