Role Overview

The UX Designer plays a key role in the design and production of technology projects, working alongside business analysts, technical staff and visual designers to identify requirements, study users and craft experiences that translate business and user needs into informed, highly engaging sites and products. The UX Designer is a versatile, client-facing position with the opportunity to shape and communicate user experience designs, and is responsible for translating the overall conceptual design into implementation-ready assets.

What You'll Be Doing
 

  • Conduct stakeholder and user interviews
  • Collect and document business and design requirements
  • Plan, conduct, and/or participate in user research
  • Freely ideate and conceptualize via sketches, concept models, etc.
  • Create annotated wire frames and functional/interaction specifications
  • Identify and communicate design tradeoffs and alternatives, as needed
  • Present findings, design concepts, and rationale internally and to clients
  • Plan and facilitate client workshops and team meetings
  • Interact and collaborate across internal disciplines
  • Work within internal processes for design, development, and review
  • Contribute to defining and improving quality standards and processes



What You Bring to BGRS
 

• BA or BSc. degree in related field (psychology, information design, etc.)
• 3+ years in Information Architecture, Interaction Design, or User Experience role
• Commitment to the full user-centered design project lifecycle, including user research, requirements gathering, ideation/concepting and design
• At least one (1) year of mobile design work with suitable portfolio of samples (be prepared to present these)
• Experience with Agile Development Methodology
• Expertise with tools of the trade, (e.g  Visio, or Axure)
• Problem solving, resourcefulness  and forward thinking in IA and Web design
• Versatility and perseverance in pursuit of the most effective design solutions
• Passion for creating comprehensive and effective design deliverables
• Good presentation skills in varied settings with the ability to express ideas and gain consensus
• Consultative nature with strong client relationship building focus
• Experience with lab-based and/or guerilla usability testing
• Proficiency with simulation and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure, Fireworks CS4)
• Content strategy and/or content development for the Web
• Taxonomy development
• Web application design experience
• Multi-platform/multi-channel design
• Experience in enterprise-class applications is an asset
• Technical depth and understanding of the software development process is an asset
• Proactive, self-motivated nature and working style
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to complete tasks and work items with a limited amount of supervision.
